Cristiano Ronaldo’s departure from the Seleção das Quinas has sent shockwaves across Portugal. As the striker’s international career appears to be coming to an end, the Portuguese media are looking back on the shock with disappointment.
Cristiano Ronaldo reportedly feels betrayed by coach Jorge Jesus after the latter announced his sudden departure.
“CR7 turns his back on the national team. The captain caused a global earthquake within the squad by leaving the training camp after a press conference,” the coach said. “Cristiano Ronaldo has also left the national team; his decision is irreversible,” the coach continued.
The newspaper A Bola bid a sorrowful farewell on its front page to the 41-year-old striker, who has made the most international appearances for Portugal (234 caps) and is his country’s all-time leading goalscorer (146 goals).
“Cristiano Ronaldo has left the national team. The captain will no longer take part in any training sessions; he left the training camp and flew to Madrid on his private jet,” the daily newspaper wrote, making no attempt to hide its disappointment.
