Endre Sándor Barcs
Endre Sándor Barcs is a veteran Hungarian journalist and writer with over five decades of experience covering European and international affairs. He earned his PhD in London in 1970. He began his career as a news editor at Hungarian Radio, including its English-language section, while also contributing to several daily newspapers. In the 1970s, he served as press secretary for the International Sports Press Association. Following Hungary's regime change in 1990, Barcs became senior foreign affairs correspondent for Hungarian Television, a role in which he accompanied the President of Hungary, the Prime Minister, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs on international negotiations — bringing him into direct contact with the United Nations, the European Union, and NATO. He also served as CNN's Hungarian correspondent for six years. In 2003, ahead of Hungary's EU accession, he became press spokesman for the socialist delegation during the period when Hungarian MPs held observer status in the European Parliament, a position he held for two years before becoming Brussels correspondent for a private Hungarian television channel. Beyond journalism, Barcs has long been active in human rights advocacy, championing the freedoms of oppressed minorities. He is also a published author, with several books in Hungarian to his name, and a playwright whose works have been staged in theaters across Budapest.
