Steve Witkoff, President Trump’s special envoy, described his talks in Moscow and Kyiv on ending the war as constructive. After the first round of negotiations, Witkoff said that they were holding substantive discussions with the Ukrainian president.
While both President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and the American delegation offered upbeat assessments, neither announced an immediate breakthrough.
“We very much hope that we will be able to reach agreements with our American partners, and we are counting on the support of our European partners if the war continues in winter — and this is how it appears at the moment,” Zelenskyy said.
Although no details of the new American proposals were made public, Yuri Ushakov, a Kremlin adviser, described the talks between the United States and Putin as “extremely candid” and said that the United States had a number of “ideas about possible ways forward toward a solution.”
Although both leaders pledged to suspend attacks on each other’s capitals during the negotiations, attacks continued in other parts of the countries.
Russia reportedly attacked Ukraine with 108 drones. Meanwhile, according to a statement by Russian air defense on Saturday evening, 258 Ukrainian drones were destroyed.
