Sir Anthony Hopkins is topping the classical music charts in the UK with his new album, Life is a Dream. The 88 years old actor achieved the number one spot with his Decca record. The music was composed by the actor, and it is performed by the Philharmonic Orchestra and conducted by Gustavo Dudamel.
The Oscar-winning actor said that he was inspired by memories of his childhood in Wales, family.
“Music was my first desire, my first wish. I’ve been composing music all my life. Some of these pieces have lived with me for decades and I still find myself returning to them” — Hopkins said of the album.
In support of the people of Venezuela after a series of deadly earthquakes, Hopkins is donating a share of sales from his Life Is a Dream CD and vinyl to the United Nations Development Fund.
Writing for The Independent, Louis Chilton observed there was something “wonderfully, life-affirmingly sweet” about Hopkins’ music, which shifted between “bright, brass-led fanfares to elegant waltzes.”
