Hungary has requested several more days to agree on the opening of the final two negotiation clusters for Ukraine’s accession talks with the European Union, Ukrainian ambassador to the EU Taras Kachka said. Officials in Kyiv have hoped to receive the “green light” in the coming days.
One of the clusters relates to environmental and energy issues, while the other concerns agriculture.
“We hope that in the coming days it will be convenient for them to give the green light. Indeed, this is the only country saying it needs a few more days… I hope that, in principle, everything will be implemented as agreed,” Kachka said.
When asked by journalists to clarify if the wait would be just a few days, the ambassador confirmed that the decision is expected soon.
Ukraine intends to complete accession negotiations by the end of 2028.
“We have the potential to do everything within one year. And this is not just based on our experience… There are many examples showing that with full and rapid mobilization, it is a matter of a year or a year and a half. These are not inflated expectations, this is a completely realistic situation,” the ambassador said.
