The European Union strongly condemns the latest Houthi attacks against Saudi Arabia, which targeted civilian and economic infrastructure in the south of the country and injured 73 civilians, including women and children. External Action Service of the European Union (EEAS) expresses its full solidarity with Saudi Arabia and wishes those injured a full and speedy recovery. The targeting of civilians and civilian infrastructure is unacceptable.
“These attacks constitute a dangerous escalation, violate international law, undermine regional security and stability and risk further jeopardising efforts towards a peaceful resolution of the conflict in Yemen” — the statement given out by the spokesperson of the EEAS says.
EU calls on the Houthis to immediately end all attacks inside and outside Yemen, including attacks against commercial shipping in the Red Sea, and comply with UN Security Council resolutions.
“Peace and stability in Yemen are essential for the security of the Gulf region and the Red Sea. The European Union remains firmly committed to supporting the people and the government of Yemen and to working with the United Nations, regional partners and the international community towards de-escalation and a comprehensive, inclusive, and sustainable peace.” — the statement says.
