European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen congratulated her “close friend” Lula on Monday for his re-election, saying that “democracy and multilateralism have won in Brazil.”

“The partnership between Europe and Brazil is doing very well. We will stand by your side for the years to come. Together, we will continue to work closely for free and open trade. A rules-based global order. And strong ambitions for our climate,” von der Leyen noted on X.
