Brussels, 27 October 2026 — The Embassy of Pakistan in Brussels observed Kashmir Black Day today, marking the anniversary of 27 October 1947, when Indian forces entered Jammu and Kashmir, which the Embassy describes as the start of a prolonged period of occupation, denial of fundamental rights, and continued deprivation of the Kashmiri people’s right to self-determination, according to an Embassy statement.

The observance reaffirmed Pakistan’s solidarity with the people of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), as Pakistan terms the territory, and highlighted the need for a just and lasting resolution of the Jammu and Kashmir dispute in accordance with relevant United Nations Security Council (UNSC) resolutions and the aspirations of the Kashmiri people.

Messages from the President, the Prime Minister, and the Deputy Prime Minister/Foreign Minister of Pakistan were read out on the occasion. The messages reiterated Pakistan’s moral, political, and diplomatic support for the Kashmiri people’s struggle for self-determination, condemned alleged human rights violations in IIOJK, and called upon the international community to uphold its responsibilities under international law.

Ambassador of Pakistan to the European Union, Belgium and Luxembourg, H.E. Rahim Hayat Qureshi, underscored the importance of upholding international law and implementing relevant UNSC resolutions to ensure a just settlement of the Jammu and Kashmir dispute in accordance with the wishes of the Kashmiri people. He emphasized that a peaceful and lasting resolution was essential for enduring peace and stability in South Asia and beyond. He reaffirmed Pakistan’s continued commitment to supporting the Kashmiri people in their pursuit of self-determination, dignity, and justice.

As part of the observance, the Ambassador inaugurated a photo exhibition titled “Kashmir Black Day: A Forgotten Tragedy,” highlighting what the Embassy describes as the human rights situation in IIOJK. A special documentary depicting the plight of the Kashmiri people was also screened.

The event was attended by members of academia, media, think tanks, and the Pakistani community, who expressed solidarity with the people of Jammu and Kashmir and underscored the importance of a peaceful resolution of the dispute in accordance with relevant UN Security Council resolutions.
