The diplomatic struggle between Brussels and Beijing has taken a dramatic turn. On June 16, 2026, China vehemently rejected European accusations that it had been training Russian soldiers who were subsequently deployed to the Ukrainian front.
Lin Jian, spokesperson for China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, described the allegations as “outright slander” and insisted that they have no factual basis whatsoever.
“Verified information indicating that the Chinese military trained Russian soldiers who later went to fight in Ukraine.”
However, Kaja Kallas, the European Union’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, claims she possesses exactly that. This is not merely a disagreement between the EU and China; it is part of a broader strategy through which Europe is intensifying its campaign against the Sino-Russian axis.
The Leaked Document
The “secret document” referred to by Kallas was made public by the German newspaper Die Welt. According to the newspaper’s sources, European intelligence services obtained a classified document stating that several hundred Russian soldiers participated in military training programs at six facilities of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army in late 2025. The training focused on the use of unmanned systems, electronic countermeasures against drones, and modern combat simulations.
Dozens of these Russian soldiers reportedly joined the Ukrainian battlefield in early 2026, with some occupying command positions, including members of Rubicon, an elite Russian unit specializing in drone warfare.
