Emmanuel Macron intends to use the G7 summit to launch the Franco-British international mission that will provide military oversight following the reopening of the strategically important Strait of Hormuz.
“The necessary assets are ready for deployment.”
The French president wrote this on X shortly after the announcement of an agreement between Washington and Tehran that will allow the reopening of this vital route for global energy trade, which is currently blocked.
A Shift After the War
The G7 countries, with the exception of the United States, refused to participate in the Middle East war in the spring. However, now that Trump has succeeded in bringing about peace, they are preparing to intervene after the end of the conflict in order to ensure the security of maritime navigation.
While the world awaits the signing ceremony scheduled to take place in Geneva on Friday, officials say the G7 powers will discuss on Monday the consequences of the agreement, support for Lebanon, the long-term reopening of Hormuz, and the conclusion of a nuclear and ballistic missile agreement with Iran.
