Harry Kane has officially been crowned the best player in the world, ending a quarter-century drought for English football by lifting the 2026 Ballon d’Or. The Bayern Munich striker beat out elite competition to secure the golden ball following a year of unprecedented goalscoring dominance for both club and country.
By winning the prize, Kane becomes the first Englishman to be named the world’s best since Michael Owen achieved the feat back in 2001, marking a significant milestone in the national team’s history.
Addressing the audience in his home city, an emotional Kane expressed his gratitude for the recognition. “I am almost speechless,” the England captain admitted during his acceptance speech. “Being here in London has made it extra special. Made it a good omen for me tonight. Thank you to everyone who voted for me. I can imagine it was tough this year. Some world-class players in the room tonight. Congratulations to all the winners and nominees tonight and impressive showing determination and hard work can really achieve.”
